If it's not labeled sirloin (which is lower in fat) then it's probably chuck!. Most ground beef is mixture of 80% meat 20% fat!. According to the Beef people 70/30 is the highest fat ratio allowed!. The lower the fat the less soft the meat usually is, freezing can also change the consistency or you could have gotten some that had been around longer than expected!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

toughness could mean it is not a really tender cut that has gone into grinding ,other than a permitted percentage of fat there should be no additive ,why it should taste strange is questionable, used within the specified date no deterioration should take place, have you considered informing the store ,they should hear about it & than take matters up with the concerned people!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is ground up beef - if it is made of other stuff, it would be breaking the FDA food law and your grocery store would be put out of business!. You may have cooked it wrong, too long or it may have been on it's last day before the SELL BY date at the store!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it says 100% ground beef, than by law it must contain nothing else!.
The coarseness of the grinder can vary, as can the cut of beef it was ground from (I think)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well Beef of course, then you also have a healthy dose of antibiotics and whatever disease the cow died with including parasites such as ring worm! Yum Yum!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ground beef is made from most all the left over parts of the Cow!.
Meaning parts that aren't lean enough to be steaks or roasts, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

100% ground beef, well, i thinkWww@FoodAQ@Com
