Answers:
A patty melt is nothing more than a hamburger served on rye toast with grilled onions and melted cheese!. It incredibly easy to make!.

Grill some onions!. Cook a hamburger!. Put the burger on a piece of rye (you can put some mustard or mayo on the rye if you like, but it's not traditional)!. Top with grilled onions and top that with swiss cheese (that's traditional, but you can use any kind of cheese you like!. If he likes Blue, that would be fantastic)!. Butter the top piece of rye and put it in a heated pan as you would a grilled cheese sandwich!. Butter the other top as the bottom one is browning!. Flip until golden brown and serve!Www@FoodAQ@Com

A traditional patty melt is on rye, but I have a different take on the patty melt!. You could use rye if you want though!.

For 1 patty melt:

2 slices sourdough bread
butter
hamburger patty
sliced onions
sliced tomatoes (2-3 slices)
homeamde 1,000 island dressing
2 slices American, chedder, provolone or swiss cheese etc!.!.!. I prefer provolone though

Dressing:

Mix ketchup, mayo relich or small chopped pickles, a quick splash of pickle juice, seasoned salt, and a little lime juice if you want!.

In a pan grill the onions until translucent!. You want them to still have a crsipness to them, take out the pan and set aside!. Cook the burger!.

Butter one side of each piece of bread and grill in a skillet!. Lay a slice of cheese on one peice of bread, and add a dallop of the dressing!. When it's nice and golden brown place on a plate or cutting board!. When the burger is cooked top with the grilled onions, tomatoes, and another dallop of the 1,000!. Melt the cheese by steaming it!. Place the burger on top tihe piece of bread with the melted cheese, add the second piece of bread!. Put 2 toothpicks into the sandwich and cut in 1/2!.

This is messy but soooooo worth it!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

My Patty Melt

Sautee a sweet onion (maui or vidalia) in butter, set aside!. Cook a cube steak or patty in the same pan!. Toast up 2 pieces of rye bread, when done, add onions to each slice, then a piece of good provolone or swiss on each side, then the patty and fold together!.

We love this, the juice from the onions "butter" the pieces of toast!. Good taste of onions, cheese andpatty in each bite! Good stuff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

1 pkg!. Pepperidge Farms puff pastry sheets, thawed
1/2 lb!. turkey breast, thinly sliced
1/2 lb!. baked ham, thinly sliced
1/2 lb!. Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
1/2 lb!. Provolone cheese, thinly sliced
1 egg beaten well with 1 tbsp!. water (egg wash)

Have meats and cheeses thinly sliced from the deli!.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees!. Roll out one pastry sheet on floured surface to about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness!. (Keep other sheet wrapped well until ready to use)!. Cut into 6 oblong or 8 square pieces!. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet!.

Layer turkey, Swiss cheese, ham and Provolone cheese on each piece of pastry, leaving about 1/2 inch edges all around!. Brush edges with egg wash!. Roll out remaining pastry sheet to 1/8 inch, cut same number of pieces!. Place one on top of each meat and cheese layered piece!. Seal edges with tines of fork!. Make several air holes in top of each pastry with fork!.

Brush pastries completely with egg wash, trying not to cover air holes!. bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees, reduce heat to 350 degrees!. Bake an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown!. Serve with tangy mustard sauce or prepared horseradish sauce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Craig B's recipe is the traditional old fashion patty melt!. It's a very hearty and tasty sandwich!. But I have used turkey breast instead of hamburger and it's great too! I use thin deli sliced turkey and pile it on high!. Serve with some fries or potato chips!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
