Sure, you can steam anything without a steamer!. My favorite way is in a steamer basket, in a large pot on the stove top!. But you can use your nuke to steam veggies: just cut the veggies---whatever they are---into uniform pieces!. Put them in a microwave-safe bowl, along with a couple of tablespoons of water, and whatever seasonings you like!. Them cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap!.
It will depend on the type and size of the vegetable pieces, but start out with 2 minutes on "high", and check your vegetables for doneness!. Be careful when you remove the plastic wrap, because the escaping steam is REALLY hot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

When cooking in the MW you are basically steaming!. The little water you use quickly turns to steam, and the cover stops it from escaping!.
I urge you to purchase a bamboo steamer, or if you are flush with cash see if you can get a metal one with baskets!.
My steamer has 3 small basket that fit inside so it is possible to steam 3 different veggies with out them mixing together!. The advantage is that you can fill each individually so you can cook the slower food first, and then add the others in order!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you've got a colander / strainer or even a sieve you are well on your way!.
Test it over the top of your pots to find the best fit, then drop whatever you want to steam in the strainer / sieve over a pot of simmering water, cover nice and tight with clingfilm or tin foil and off you go!.
This is also a great way to smoke things as well, I do it often!. Simply put whatever you want to smoke it with (I like using things like earl grey tea for duck breast, or cigar tabacco)!. Light it until is starts to smoke, put on a low heat and cover good and tight!. If you place a layer of tinfoil on the bottom of the pot before you put the tea leaves in, it makes it so easy to clean

If you have a pan with a lid that fits tightly you can put a couple of spoonfuls of water in the pan, add the veggies and cook on a very low heat!. You will end up with more liquid than you started with as the veggies sweat!. But it has to be a very closefitting lid and very low heat else they burn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
