allrecipes!.com is a great website, and your cookies do look delicious! #2 is the better picture of these choices because it shows the texture of the cookies!.
For better, more natural lighting, take the picture of the cookies on a plain white plate, either right by a window or near a natural light source!. Avoid lighting with regular, everyday light bulbs, as many cast off a yellowish glow!. Better yet, take the cookies outside and take the picture of the cookies (on a plate) on a picnic table - that would give it a nice homey feel!.
If you have a tripod at your disposal, use that to avoid any camera shake!. If not, stabilize the camera as best you can, and use the self timer function to avoid any further camera shake when pushing the button!. Best of luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Retake photo 2, so that it's not blurry and does not have anything in the background (can see your risotto cream container)!. I would put the cookies on a dark-colored plate if you have one so that they stand out more!. Remember, that when Allrecipes chooses a pic as the feature photo to go with a recipe, that it shows as just a small thumbnail!. While your first photo is more artistic, they wouldn't pick it because the cookies would barely show up in a smaller sized photo!.
You're making me hungry though, can I have a cookie!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pic 2 is better because it's more focused on what you're presenting!. However, my suggestion is to retake that picture using the Macro setting on your camera!. The Macro setting lets you take closeup pictures and they come out clearer!. The Macro setting looks like a flower, more specifically a tulip,Www@FoodAQ@Com
The second is the better!.
Improvements
Shift the jar as it casts a shadow!.
Improve the lighting or use a flash,
Setting: show the face of one either leaning against something or above!. Break one to show the texture!.
Sorry to be critical of your photography, I know how difficult it is to set up the perfect shot!. I used to take several with different arrangements and then have to have the film processed!.
It was a difficult and expensive to get good pics!. At least with digital you have faster viewing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Okay, photo one the cookie has flaw plus you have a glass of milk that is almost done but no bite taken out of a cookie
The second one is just weird looking
Here is what you do!.!.!.
Get a table that is near a pretty "southern Living" type atmosphere window
Maybe a pretty sunflower boutique vase dark blue
then get a nice dark blue plate (or something) and arrange a few cookies on the plate w/ a frosty glass of milk ~ maybe have an actual child sitting in the chair enjoying a big bite out of your delicious cookie but make sure it is a close up photoWww@FoodAQ@Com

First of all APPLAUSE are needed here! Thank you for posting pictures of your food! I love to see a picture of the recipe I am looking at, so Thank you!
Out of the two I would go with #2 but if you can retake the picture with the cookies on a white plate and the other stuff in the background!. Focus on the cookies, then the extras!.
What was your address!?!? I'll ne right over to test those cookies for you! My favorites!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would place them on a nice solid colored plate and re-take the picture!. Your counter is to busy in teh frist one and it takes away from the cookies!. In the scond one the counter is busy and blurred once again taking away from the picture!. But of the 2 I would go with the second!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The second one is better because the other one has too much stuff to distract from the cookies!. Personally, I think you should take another one of the cookies on a plate instead of just sittiing on the counter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I prefer the 1st one!. It shows your kitchen and gives the impression that the cookies must be really good because the milk is almost gone!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
well you can see the cookie texture etc in pic 2 but your kitchen is cute as well
tough one
go with 2Www@FoodAQ@Com
