Is there a good substitute for onions and garlic in recipes?!

Question: Is there a good substitute for onions and garlic in recipes!?
I absolutely can not eat onions or garlic (even small amounts) because of an intestinal problem!. My daughter loves these and she gets frustrated when she cooks for me because she must leave them out!. Would there be some other ingredients that could add this type of flavor to a dish!? Or something that would enhance the dish at least!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd suggest that she starts a dish and at the end adds onions and garlic to a separate larger dish!. I often cook a meal two ways for people who have food issues!. There is something called asafetida powder!. It is very strong and tastes of leeks and garlic!. But if you are allergic, this might not work either!. Please ask your doctor about asafetida and see if it will would work!. Otherwise, the best option is for to make the dish without, separate some for you and add it later!. Or she could look around, there are plenty of savory dishes that do not require garlic and onions!.

I cook for a friend who hates onion, garlic, leeks, chives (or thinks she does) and I just leave out the garlic and onion, and rely on herbs and other spices!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
