Type of cheese for cream of broccoli soup?!

Question: Type of cheese for cream of broccoli soup!?
I just went shopping for ingredients for cream of broccoli soup, but I forgot to write cheddar cheese (which we always shred and melt on top) on the list! We have american cheese slices in the house though!. Would the american cheese work fine in place of cheddar!? Or should I go back out and get the cheddar!?

Silly question but I can't make up my mind!. :)

ThanksWww@FoodAQ@Com

NOOOO, don't use American!. Yes, American melts nicely, but don't think it's the best choice!. Definitely go back and get the Cheddar, and maybe even a Jack cheese too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would go back to the store!. The sliced cheese will not melt all thru the soup, it will just be a big mess on top, as like the shredded chedder, yum, you can spin it all thru the soup!. I would go back!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've made soup with the slices -- it just takes some elbow grease!. You'd really have to mix mix mix to get it to incorporate!.

I use cream cheese in mine, and just a sprinkle of cheddar!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Velveeta cheese I just made it last week I used the same recipe that Kity kity posted earlier turned out awesome and I froze some it alsoWww@FoodAQ@Com

I think it would be worth it to go back to the store and get some cheddar cheese!. American cheese doesn't sound good at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think cheddar is the best cheese for the soup, sorry!. It just has that nice sharp flavor!. American cheese is so bland!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pleeeeease go out and buy the cheddar!. Extra old cheddar, the orange one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No! Do not use american!. YUCK! I use Velveeta!. It is the best!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cream cheese, it makes a soup more refined and does not give it an over powering taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Blue cheese, works really well with broccoli soup!. Very tasty, just puree a bit in, when you whiz the soup up!. TastyWww@FoodAQ@Com

cheddar or mozzarellaWww@FoodAQ@Com

Oh nothing beats Cheddar!
Just go get some cheddar!. :)
