The fish McDonald’s uses is now Hoki, a sustainable alternative to cod!. This is sourced through Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries, and comes from the seas around New Zealand!. Yes, the Filet-o-Fish is cooked from frozen and does take a little longer than the other sandwiches, but hopefully it’s worth the wait!. Some menu items are frozen to ensure they are at their best when they reach the restaurants!. From mid November, McDonald's Filet-o-Fish will be prepared using Alaskan Pollock fish, which is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries!. Fish Fingers will continue to be made from Hoki, also sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Try getting a good quality cod or halibut steak and using a batter like the one following!. Deep fry in a regular frying pan with Olive Oil (heart healthy) just a couple inches in the bottom of the pan and heat to the beginning marker on burner handle of High!. Must be good and hot or will absorb grease instead of sealing and cooking it!. - drain well and serve on a bun with tartar sauce and shredded lettuce!.
1 ts Salt
3/4 c Flour
2 ts Baking powder
1 c Cornstarch [Yep++1 cup]
1 Egg
1 tb Oil
3/4 c Water
1 c Olive Oil for frying
Cod is a traditional sandwich fish though so I try for that and then use halibut if can't get good thick fillets of cod!.
