Why do people think they can leave out the salt when they are making/baking sweets?!
Salt is so crucial to the outcome, ESPECIALLY if you're making something sweet!.
I think it's crazy to omit the salt or use unsalted butter (unless there is a specific reason to use unsalted butter!. I've been a chef for years and I don't know of one!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree that salt is very neccesary!.I am on a reduced sodium diet, and really need to use no salt added baking powder and soda (there is a LOT of sodium on both of them)!. My baked goods are okay but do not taste as well as the fully salted versions!.

I know that many recipes call for unsalted butter, and it is my understanding that this is so because it enables the cook to more accurately control the salt in a dish!. Generally, I think it's a wash!. I, too, typically use salted butter, and go a little lighter on additional added salt in the recipe!. My sense of taste is my guide!.

I have no idea, but if I'm baking I always add the salt!. I don't necessarily go by recipes, I'm just a mom of 4 kids that likes to experiment!. When I taste a sweet that doesn't have the salt added it tastes "flat" to me!. I don't use a lot of salt in my cooking or baking, but you have to use some!. Salt that is iodized is something your body needs in MODERATION!. Those are just my opinions though but good question!. Good Luck in your quest for answers!.
