Question: I need to thicken a gravy in my crockpot!. I added 2 cans of broth and it is too runny!. Help!.!?
Answers:
A very easy way to thicken a dish after it's all done is to add instant mashed potatoes till you get the thickness you want!.Do not add flour at this point or you'll have lumps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, you can do one of two things!.

-You can reduce it by leaving the lid off for a couple of hours!. This may not work, however, if you're braising something in the gravy!.
-You could thicken it with a starch!. If you want to do it in the crockpot, you can add either a beurre manié (flour mixed with butter), a flour or cornstarch slurry, or just sprinkle flour in and whisk like crazy!. Otherwise, you can make a roux and pour the gravy into the saucepan and whisk them together!. (Said roux ought to be fairly dark before you add the liquid to thicken though!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just take 1/3 cup of corn starch or flour and mix with COLD water til smooth!. If you have to use a hand blender or food processor to get it absolutely smooth or it will cause lumps!. I usually just mix mine with a fork!.!. This is called making a 'roux' and you can use it to thicken brown gravy, etc too!.

When completely mixed - pour and stir in well!. But I would wait til last half hr before serving to add thickening!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Any roux or cornstarch mixture has to boil to thicken!.

Therefore you need to remove your runny gravy from the slow cooker, add it to a roux or cornstarch mixture and bring the whole thing to a boil!.

Add it back to the slow cooker if you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Take a little bit of the broth out and mix it w/ some cornstarch or flour, mix so there are no lumps, then whisk back into the crock pot with the rest of the broth!.

a roux is a fat (oil, butter, etc!.) and flour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

in a bowl whisk together 1/2 a cup of flour with cold water until smooth and the consistency of glue and slowly pour it into the crockpot stirring with the other hand until it is smooth and the desired thickness!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

add gravy granuels or cornflourWww@FoodAQ@Com

you could add a couple of teaspoons of corn starch or flour (dissolve in a little water to get rid of the lumps)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mix a little flour with water -- pour it in it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
