Does the body absorb organic sugars differently than refined sugars?!
We have several family members who have diabetes!. I have been searching for recipes to accommodate their dietary restrictions, and during my search I found some sites that claim their recipes are "sugar free"!. Many of these recipes call for organic sugars such as rice syrup, evaporated cane juice, agave nectar, organic powdered sugar -- to name a few!.
But, I wonder how these are more nutritionally beneficial instead of refined sugars!. Isn't sugar, any way you process it, still sugar!? Wouldn't it affect someone with diabetes the same way!? Does the body absorb organic sugars differently than refined sugars!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sorry it took so long to answer but I wanted to ask a dear friend first, whom I know knows a little bit about the subject!. He told me organic sugar like fructose is way better for the body than refined sugar, because refined sugar contains a lot of substances that cannot be absorbed correctly by the body!. These waste substances stay in the body with no goal and cause infections, especially in the knees, elbows… They are also the cause of many heart diseases and osteoporosis!.
Organic sugars don’t cause all this, BUT they are still sugars, and therefore not good for diabetic persons, as far as the sugar level is concerned!.
Stevia is said to be a very good alternative!. Professor Geuns, from the University of Leuven here in Belgium, has done a lot of scientific research and claims that it is absolutely safe, even for people who have diabetes!.
I use it sometimes, but I never asked myself if it was OK for diabetic persons, until you posted your (interesting!) question!.

interesting question but I don't know the answer!. A friend of mine is also diabetic but the sweetener and sugar free stuff taste really sweet to me!. Go Figure!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I am wondering about this stuff too, I have bought fructose which is supposed to have a lower glycemic index than regular sugar, but its still a carbohydrate!. It just doesnt make the blood sugar spike as badly!. I have tried Agave and Stevia, too!. Because I have to be carefull, too, I use splenda (sucralose) a lot, and I like it, But some folks I know wont eat it because they say its bad!. I really think its fine tho!. I have never had any problems with it, and I think it tastes much better than aspartame!. I think some folks confuse all the different non sugar products, and think they are the same!. Which they are not!. I have been making different things with splenda, tho, And I'm pretty happy with the taste!. It's not quite like sugar, but it's not bad, either!. Splenda works by slightly changing the molecular structure of regular sugar, just enough so that it is not recognised as a food, or anything, really, by your body, so It passes right through without acting as a carb!. It just tastes sweet,(300 times sweeter than sugar), but doesnt become a sugar in your body, or cause tooth decay, or anything!. It seems pretty good to me!.
