Question: Question about lard!.!.!.!?
I saw a recipe online that called for lard!. I've never seen this in the grocery store!.!.!.is it the same as Crisco!? Where would it be located in the grocery store!?

Answers:
No, lard is rendered animal fat!. Crisco is hydrogenated vegetable oil!. There are some traditional southern cooks that say you cannot make authentic biscuits without lard!. You should be able to find it in the same area as the shortening, but it will be in sort of a generic or old-timey box or bucket that says "LARD!."

If using lard creeps you out, you could probably substitute butter or shortening but it will not yield the same result!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lard must be refrigerated because it's a crude animal fat, and so will be in a refrigerated section!. I wouldn't trust any lard that isn't in a cold section!. It might be with the dairy!. Lard is just animal fats!. I believe you could just use vegetable shortening!. Butter might make a good substitute because it has some flavour, whereas shortening doesn't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can use Crisco!. It will work just fine!. If you want lard try looking in the dairy area or ask a store employee!. I bet they have it somewhere!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's pork fat and you can find it in the Mexican food aisle, it's called manteca!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
