Here is the best Buttercream Icing around!. It is the standard recipe used by bakeries and caterers all across the country!.
Doc
Wilton Buttercream Icing
? cup solid vegetable shortening (Crisco)
? cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
1 Tablespoon Wilton Clear Vanilla Extract
4 cups Confectioners Sugar (1 pound)
2 Tablespoons Milk
Wilton Icing Color
Cream Butter and Shortening with an electric mixer!. Add vanilla extract!. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed!. Scrape sides and bottom of the bowl often!. When all the sugar has been mixed in, the icing will appear dry!. Add milk and beat at medium speed until it is light and fluffy!. Makes 3 cups!.
At this point you will have a nice white icing!. For colors, use Wilton’s Icing Color paste or powder!. Use a toothpick to add the paste to the icing and mix well until the color is even!. If you need more color, use a new toothpick for each new addition of color!.
Keep the icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use!. For best results, keep the icing bowl in the refrigerator, with a piece of plastic wrap pushed down to be in contact with the icing, when not in use!. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored for 2 weeks!. Rewhip before use!.
To make Chocolate Butter Cream Icing, add either 3/4 cup of Cocoa powder, or 3-oz!. melted unsweetened chocolate, melted!. Mix on medium speed until well blended!. Add 2 another two tablespoons of milk and mix on medium speed until fluffy!.
To make Mocha Chocolate Icing, replace the milk in the Chocolate Icing with strong brewed coffee!. IMO, this is just about the best icing in the world!.
This icing pipes perfectly, remains relatively soft yet holds shapes very well!.

butter icing is good as it does not dry, holds it's shape and can be easily piped!.
otherwise, depending on the flavour of the cupcakes, you could try a cream cheese frosting!.
There is quite a few recipes on the sites below!.
otherwise, an easy one:
chocolate frosting
# 100g soft butter
# 300g (2 cups) icing sugar mixture
# 1 tbs cocoa powder
# 2 tbs milk
place butter in a large bowl and use an electric beater to briefly beat until creamy!. Sift over the combined icing sugar and cocoa powder, and beat until combined!. Add the milk and beat until fluffy
If you don't want chocolate, you can add a little bit of vanilla essence and a few drops of food colouring, and a little extra icing mixture!.

A traditional buttercream icing will do that!. Just google any recipe !.!.!.there are tons!. Just remember that for piping, you'll want the consistency to be such that you can put an offset spatula straight up in the bowl and it will fall over!. If it doesn't do that, it's too thick for piping!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
