Roasting a whole chicken...?!

Question: Roasting a whole chicken!.!.!.!?
So roast chicken (under the oven, duh XD) for my mum's birthday tomorrow!. Seems simple enough, hey!? Well I've never done it before, and just a few questions!.

1!. I'm cooking pumpkin and potatoes with it!. What I do is steam them before I roast them, because I cannot STAND hard potatoes, and they take ages to cook under the oven!. So how long after putting the chicken in should I wait to put the potatoes and pumpkin in!?

2!. How long would a whole chicken take to cook!?

Any hints and suggestions would help, :) thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Regarding the pumpkin and potatoes, if you have steamed them, then they should need 20-30 minutes in the oven to roast!.

The chicken will need 25 minutes per pound weight + 20 minutes, so a 4 pound (1!.8kg) chicken will take 2 hours at 160deg c or 320f!. Stick a fork in a leg or the breast!. If the liquid that runs out is clear, then it should be done!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Think it is time to open a cookbook!. The size of the chicken determines the amount of time it takes to cook!. One good thing is that if the chicken is done first that is good!. It needs time to set so you can slice it easier and it does not need to be super hot when served!. You did not say what you are doing with the pumpkin!? If it is a pie check the time on the can and for the temp!. You can put the potatoes in a micro for a few minutes to get them started also before baking!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tomorrow (Oct 1st) is MY birthday too!.!.!.say Happy Birthday to your mom for me!!

OK!.!.!.potatoes will take an hour in the oven!. Chicken will too (depending on size) but I would keep both in there for awhile longer!. If you add a little water to the potatoes, and cover them with foil, they don't take so long!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

how many pounds is it!?
i put raw veg in from the beginning and let them roast long with the chicken and they always cook through and are nice and tenderWww@FoodAQ@Com

Use a roasting pan!. Slice up some onions and celery and place in the bottom of the roasting pan!. Pour about 2 cans of chicken broth on top of the vegetables!.

Preheat your oven to about 350 degrees Farenheit!. Wash chicken well inside and out!. Sprinkle inside of chicken with salt and pepper!. Place a few stalks of celery in the cavity along with some onion quarters and a quartered apple!. Rub melted butter over the entire outside of chicken and place in roasting pan on top of the vegetables and broth!.

Place roasting pan in oven and let bake for about 20 minutes per pound!. If chicken starts to brown too much too soon, take out and cover with aluminum foil!.

You could bake your pumpkin and potatoes alongside your chicken, if there is room!. If not, steam your vegetables while chicken is baking, then after chicken is done, remove from oven and put vegetables in oven for about 30 minutes!. This will allow your chicken to "rest" before carving!. Allowing your chicken to rest will prevent it from drying out after it is carved!.

While your vegetables are baking and your chicken is resting, remove the celery and onions from the drippings in your pan!. Pour through a strainer into a saucepan!. Heat on stove over medium heat!. Mix about 3 T!. of cornstarch with 1/4 cup of cold water, slowly add to drippings in saucepan, use a whisk to stir while pouring!. Continue to heat and stir until mixture starts to thicken!. Remove from stove and cover until ready to serve!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
