It could be that your baking pan is made from thin metal!. Easy fix is to trim off the elevate part!. Take a piece of dental floss, unflavored, and simply draw it through the elevated portion!. I've found that the new silicone baking pans work very well!. Professional bakers trim cakes all the time!. If you are frosting the cake simply flip the cake upside down so that the trimmed portion isn't exposed!. I also love Wilsonart silicone coated parchment paper and I use it in the bottom of all my baking pans for cakes, brownies, cookies!.!.!. Hobby Lobby sells it as well as Wilsonart products!. I've included a link with a coupon for 40% off!. Happy baking!Www@FoodAQ@Com

They all do that!. That's what it's supposed to look like!. That means you baked it correctly!. If the cake did not rise, that means it contains no baking powder, and would not have any fluffy bubbles in the cake and it would taste horrible!. To remove the puffy part if you HAVE to have it flat - take a large knife with serrated blade (they call it a bread knife) and saw off the top after the cake has totally cooled!. Put a thin layer of icing on first to eliminate the crumbs, and let it harden a bit!. Then, put on the final icing layer!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

When mine do this, I just use extra icing to build up the corners!. Or you could use unflavored dental floss to cut it even!. LOL!! Then just eat the extra!. Mine do that too, it's not just Duncan Hines, it's all brands!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most people just trim it if they need a flat cake, like if they're making layers!.

P!.S!. They said duncan hines so they aren't using any flour, they're using a cake mix!.!.!. read the question people!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The best thing to do is to cut it!. There is a special tool for it, or you could just use a knife!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

As it cools, the middle will get flat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

dont use self raising flour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Press it down with a plate when it's baked!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

don't add baking powder and add more milk!.!.
That may help!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
