Is it hard to make sushi?!
I wanted to make dinner for my boyfriend and I think sushi would be fun to make!. I can get sweet rice and seaweed, but I'm wondering if you can just use the raw fish in an average fish market!? Do you think that's fresh enough!? I'm not a very good cook either, so if someone could give me some simple roll recipes that'd be good too!.
Oh, also do I need to buy any special tools to make sushi!? Should I practice making it by myself before I try making it for him!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sushi is not raw fish, it is the type of rice and the method for cooking the rice that means 'sushi!.' Raw fish is 'Sashimi,' not sushi (although sushi can contain sashimi!.)
Anything can be added to the sushi rice!.!. from raw seafood to cooked fish and other cooked seafood such as fried shrimp!. You can also use vegetables to make sushi!. Or eggs!.
Don't risk getting sick on raw seafood from the market!.
Make some veggie sushi or some California roll!.
The latter is made with the cooked fake crab that you buy in the stores!.
Just take a piece of nori (the seaweed sheets), add the sushi rice, some strips of avocado, a strip of the fake crab, and a very thin strip of celery!. Roll it up!. Serve with some pickled ginger, wasabi, and some soy sauce!.
Experiment, it's fun!.
Definitely experiment and you may find that the two of you experimenting together is fun!
also, you have to make the rice just right!. I use a rice cooker but you also have to add a bit of vinegar and some sugar and the rice has to be the right type of rice to make it stick together!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well when you go get the fish, the market should be able to tell you what is fresh today!. but you don't always have to use fish, other seafood is good too!. but yes you do need a tool but you can use a zip lock bag!. the key is the rice!. if its hold together really good them you can mode it the shape you want!. other thing is to hot water(a little) and wet your hands and the rice!. once the water cools down(which the rice) it will be easy to mode the shape!. and the wet hands will make sure you don't get rice stuck on your hands!. then after you get the shape in the right mode, i would put a season on top of the sushi so it the rice won;t stick to the plate or what ever you put the sushi on!. kinda like flour!. good luck and if you bf loves you i am sure he will like it cause you made it!.good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com
Unless you are well versed with Sushi I would advise against trying to make it from scratch!. First of all, not all sushi is made with raw fish!. There are other sushi's that use cooked fish and other meats!. Furthermore, how do you know that the raw fish is safe to eat!? Unless you are a connoisseur of raw fish leave it to the experts or you may become quite ill from a food borne illness!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
sushi is very fun and easy to make!. i got some jasmine rice and cooked in a rice cooker!. (This was essential for me because i have no idea how to cook rice!.) Bought some of the wraps at the grocery store as well as immitation crab, an avocado and a cucumber to make California Rolls!. I also had one of those rolly things I got from the asian store!. It turned out great and is super cheap to make!. Don't forget the wasabi!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Practice first!. You need special raw fish for sushi!. Not just regular fish from the market (You could get violently sick if you use it!)!. You can buy packaged precooked seasoned eel and make Unagi!. Good and easy to make!. You can also try california rolls!. They're not very difficult but you'll need a bamboo mat to roll them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You need a mini tatmi (bamboo) roll-up mat to roll the sushi in!.
The fish from a supermarket def!. wont be as fresh as if you went to a fish market!. also, you need to ask for sushi cuts of meat!.!.!.not just like a salmon piece u'd get for cooking!.
I bet the supermarket would be fine, though!. Ask the butcher/whoever is there about what sort of cut would be best for sushi!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

okay, you need the bamboo roll mat thing!. put seaweed down on mat, then press sticky rice on top!. cut fish into long, thin strips and put on rice!. roll up the mat, then cut up the long roll you just made!. roll hamburger way, not hotdog way!. any fish should be fine, just rinse it beforehand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
