I put some cooked green beans in the microwave and they sparked???!!?!

Question: I put some cooked green beans in the microwave and they sparked!?!?!?!!!?
I can't imagine there is metal in the green beans and so I am wondering WHY they sparked!. I did cook them in a non-stick pan the evening before and then just added a little salt, no butter!. Could the salt have caused the sparks!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
They were probably dry!. I once put carrots in the microwave to cook and they sparked as well!. Salt wouldn't cause sparks, but it may have caused the moisture to leave the beans!.

Put them in a regular ceramic bowl (no metal, no teflon, no tin foil, no plastic, etc) and pour a little water over them and into the bottom of the bowl so that they are moist (you can always re-salt them later if the water washes it away)!. Then try heating them again, and then drain the water off afterwards!.

Microwaves rely on moisture to cook, and if there is no moisutre, it can cause a spark!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, highly unlikely the salt caused the problem!. What did you store the green beans in the same pan!? Might be if you had tinfoil wrapping them up and a piece or two if it wound up in the dish you were using that coulda done it!. Did you microwave it in a dish that has decorative foil or pewter under the glaze!? I microwaved a glass cup once that had foil paint on the outside of it, fireworks show ensued!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

When you opened the top off the can of vegetables the metal from the can most likely got scrapped off and ended up in the green beans!. My electric can opener seems to leave tiny bits of metal behind, but I can only see them when it's in my tomato soup!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is highly unlikely unless there was a metal object in the bowl!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
