Can I do this with popcorn?!
I'm doing a science project on popcorn and the amount of kernels!. Can I open up a bag of unpopped kernels, take some kernels out, tape the bag closed and microwave it!?!?!?!? Will something go wrong!. I can't do it now cuz I don't have popcorn right now!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
No!.
The number of kernels will not change!. The volume will change!. Your experiment might be:
1!. Count the number of kernels in the smallest bag of popcorn you can find (or start with a counted number of kernels such as 500)!.
2!. Measure the volume of popcorn you have to start with in cups or cubic cementers!.
3!. Microwave thepopcorn in a Pyrex measuring cup or other appropriate vessel (in one or more popping sessions)!.
4!. Measure the volume of popcorn you yield!.
5!. Count the number of unpopped kernels!.
6!. Report the volume of popcorn you have yielded from the experiment!.
7!. Compare the unpopped to popped volume!.
8!. Develop a popping ratio (unpopped to popped kernels)
9!. Compute the potential volume if all kernels had popped!.
If you want to go further, you can also multiply the popped kernels ratioby the cost of the kernels in teh experiment, subtract the answer from the cost, and indicate the amount lost through unpoppable corn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't staple it shut!. You never want to put metal in a microwave!. I think that once you open a bag of popcorn it's ruined, but I'm not sure!. Like the first person said!. Can you just get two separate bags!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Tape will melt and possibly catch on fire!. Don't do it!. Even medical tape has glue on it that will melt and smell very bad!. Try folding the edge closed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Can't you get two bags and open one of them and count or whatever you need to do and cook the unopened one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
maybe staple it shut!? idkWww@FoodAQ@Com
