Apple pie recipe help?!
Bonjour!. :] So we went to go pick apples today ,I want to make a pie, so I bought some 'seconds' for my pie!. And I was wondering, I've never made a pie before, I found an easy recipe!. But I have 2 questions!.
1) It says I need vegetable shortening!. I don't have veggie shortening, or shortening for that matter!. What can I replace for this!?
2) I don't have white sugar, will brown sugar be okay!? I have enough brown sugar!. And I can't run to the store because my mom is away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can use butter to replace the vegie shortening - I have it before and the crust is very yummy!. I have used brown sugar before also!.
also I dot my apples - before laying the top crust over all - with little slices of butter!. Then I put the top crust on make some slits for steam to escape and pour about 1/4 cup of milk over it smearing it a little with my fingers so it covers all the crust - then sprinkle lightly with a little sugar!.
An easier thing for you to do that is Fool Proof might be to try this apple crisp
Peel and core your apples then Slice them into a pie plate or 8x8 square pan til it is heaping full!. Sprinkle with cinnamon - probably a good tablespoon!. Then in a medium sized bowl combine 1 cup of packed brown sugar, 1 cube of margarine or butter, room temp and sliced into pieces and 1 cup of flour!. Take a fork and mash the butter and sugar/flour til it becomes little crumbs!. Then spoon over the apples and press it down firmly with your hand - till all is covered well and packed down!. Bake til knife slides in and comes out easily to make sure apples are done!. Top should be light golden brown!. You can use brown or white sugar in this recipe!. :)
This is delicious, simple and quick!
Good luck! JillWww@FoodAQ@Com

you can use brown sugar but keep in mind that it tastes different from white sugar so your pie might not taste just right!. and veggie shortening is necessary for the crust in order for it to be tender and flaky!. however, you could use just butter instead!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Butter will work just fine in the pie crust!.
You probably should use white sugar in the apple pie filling though!. The brown sugar may work but the apple pie filling will have more of a caramel or butterscotch flavor to it!. It just depends on what you like!.

You need shortening, it probably wouldn't turn out right if you used anything else!.
Is the brown sugar for the crust or filling!? It would be fine in the filling, but not for a crust!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
