I bought a thing of catfish from the grocery, its like 3-4 fillets raw and in the typical styrofoam tray and plastic!. I bought it around Sept 29 or 30, and the sell by date was Oct 2!. Its not Oct 5, and I didn't freeze it cause I thought I would make it right away but didn't !.!.!. so would it be bad by now!? And how do I tell if its bad or not!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
In the future, it's a good practice to freeze whatever you have purchased if you don't intend to cook it that same day!. Defrosting (especially fish) doesn't take long!.

If the fish is bad, you will definitely know it -- the stench will be awful!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most experts will tell you that fish begins to spoil the moment it dies (and all fish die on the day they are caught), so "fresh" fish should be bought and cooked on the same day!. And fish spoils at a rather rapid clip!. In fact, many culinary experts will tell you to pick up your fresh fish just before you head to the check out line and keep a cooler with ice in your car for the trip home!. The problem is, most fish sold as fresh is previously frozen!. This is a good thing when the fish is frozen at sea (this fish will be marked as such)!. Freezing delays the spoilage process, but unfortunately, fish is often frozen, thawed, and refrozen several times before you buy it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

is it turning green or discolored!?

or does it look the same as when you bought it!?
