Starting a Pizza Shop Here are things to consider:
Ovens (Wood Burning, Coal Burning, or Conventional)!. Check with restaurant supply stores for pricing!. ($5,000 - $23,000)
Equipment: Pizza Pans, Pizza Screens, Pizza paddles, heavy duty mixers, pots, storage, etc!.
Supplies: Pizza Boxes, napkins, etc
And of course, ingredients (sauce, toppings, dough)!.
Note: You'll need to make a decision if you want to "buy-in" dough or make it "in House!." A pizza place can differentiate itself from the major chains by making their own dough as opposed to using frozen dough!.
also take into consideration the style of pizza you want to make, brick-oven, chicago, pan pizza, just to name a few!.
Advertise! Advertise! Advertise! Let the people know you are out there!. Competition can be rough!.
Overall, a really good local Pizzeria definitely beats out a major chain anyday!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Short answer ---if you don't know anything about making pizza why would you even think about doing this!? Go to work for a pizza place for a year before you consider opening your own!.
You need to do a lot of home work before you even consider doing this!.
1!. Can you do this from home!? Check local and state health department laws!.
2!. License fees
3!. Certification in food handling is mandatory in many areas!. Once the class has been taken then you must obtain license
4!. Check how much liability insurance will cost!.
5!. Possible upgrade of appliances at home to comply with current food code may be necessary!.
6!. Check with your automobile insurance company since you will be using the car for business the insurance will cost more!.
Now you can start worrying about the cost of a 50 lb bag of flour and a 2 pound bag of yeast!. The ingredients for the pizza are probably not going to be the most expensive part of the venture!.
Price out the ingredients at a wholesale supplier!. If you check a place like Sam's Club or Costco keep in mind that they also have case prices and you need to ask about those!.
Check a paper goods supplier for prices on boxes, bags and other disposables!.
Remember the mortality rate for new food establishments is about 90-95% in the first year!. If I had those odds for a lottery ticket I would buy one every week!.

Many a great pizza places started with just the same idea!. Most of the big ones started with people who had a good business or marketing sense and it all took off from there!. To be honest the food cost of a pizza is the least of your worries for a start up!. Overhead, equipment, labor, and insurance are just some of the major concerns!. Menu and recipe costing formulas or software can help with the food cost!. But, a complete and honest business plan is a must for a start up!. Your local branch SBA can help with that!.
