What is heavy cream? Where can I find it at the grocery store?!

Question: What is heavy cream!? Where can I find it at the grocery store!?
I found it in a pie recipe, I would like to try!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Heavy cream is the fatty part of the milk that is skimmed off!. It is used as cream (adds, well, creaminess and thickness), or to make butter and whipped cream!.

It is in the dairy section, but tends to be closer to the coffee creamers than the milk!. You'll see it as "heavy cream" or "whipping cream!." They're the same thing!.

Hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Generally heavy cream will be called other things!. There is condensed milk and evaporated milk!. Many times either of those will work fine and sometimes half and half will work which is half cream and half milk!. Go to the grocery where there is a live person working in the dairy dept and simply ask!. Avoid the big national chains as they don't know condensed milk from pogo sticks anyway!. Stick to a local, small grocery if at all possible!.
I guess you already know, but just in case, evaporated milk and condensed milk is found in the bake goods in a can!. It won't be in the dairy dept!. But ask in the dairy dept anyway!. How many stores have a person working in the bake goods dept all day!? None!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is sort of an old fashioned ingredient people used to use alot a long time ago!. When they process milk, the cream (fat, stuff that becomes butter and cheese, etc), floats to the top and they skim it off, aka, "skim milk" This too can be pasturized and sold (usually with some portion of the milk still in it so it is liquidy)!. If you look near the milk in the store, you will find some in little pint sized cartons, they look just like coffee creamer!. Instead of whip cream in a can, you would whip it yourself (if it is supposed to be whipped) which takes a long time, but is essentially better in the long run!. My grandma used to do this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It would be like whipping cream (it depends on where you live I believe!. Some places it is labeled heavy whipping cream, sometimes it is just heavy cream - if there's nothing that says "heavy cream" get the whipping cream), you can buy it in the dairy section next to the milks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

heavy cream is the same as whipping cream- it's by the milk at the grocery store- you can usually get it in a pint size and a quart size!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

in the dairy section with the coffee creamers etc, its the full content of butter fat skimmed off of the milk at the dairy, almost 100% fat, great for making whipped toppings etc, as long as you are not lactose intolerantWww@FoodAQ@Com

Heavy cream is basically fatty milk!. You can find it in the dairy section, together with half and half and whipped cream!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
