Question about thickening soup base?!
I used a can of cream of mushroom soup in my dinner and I think I added a bit too much water and would like it to be thicker!. How can I go about doing that!? Any tips!? Could I add a little bit of flour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
You could certainly use flour!. To do so, you want to create a roux (pronounced roo)!. If you dump the flour directly into the soup, it will clump!.
Basic Roux:
In a small saucepan, heat butter over low heat!. Start with 2-3 tbsp!.
Once the butter is melted, add an equal amount of flour!. If you use 2 tbsp!. butter, use 2 tbsp!. flour, and so on!.
Whisk the flour into the melted butter and cook on low until combined and golden brown!. This should only take a few minutes!.
Add the roux to your recipe!.
You could also add cornstarch or arrowroot!. Mix both in a bit of water, then add to your soup!. Some people prefer cornstarch or arrowroot, because neither taste like anything!. Cornstarch can thicken quickly, however, so use sparingly!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I use a cornstarch or flour mix with water and shake it in a jar -- so much easier!. Cornstarch mixes with cold water better !.!.!.!. place a few tablespoons of your thickener in a jar, add a few tablespoons of water, shake well!. While stirring your soup base, slowly pour in the flour mix, and continue stirring until your base is thick and creamy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
2 things you can do
1 !. mix 2 TBSP!. Flour to 1/2 cup COLD water ( I know it's adding more water, but it will thicken up) mix it until there is no flour clumps in the cup, dump into pot and stir, stir, stir!.
You will have to let it cook for a while!.
2!. mix 1 TBSP!. cornstarch with a 1/2 cup water until no clumps appear in cup!.
Either way you'll have to stir the pot for a while!.

add flour, or corn starch!. If you add one of these make sure you let it simmer for a couple of minutes so you don't get that "chalky" taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
