It is not recomended to keep much frozen for over a year, because though being frozen will not allow it to decompose, some bacteria can still multiply while frozen!. Remember, only heat will kill bacteria, freezing it will slow it or at best put it in hybernation untill it warms up again!.

However since it has only bees 9 months yeah it would be just fine to eat, unless when thawed you notice it smells funky!. So thaw, cook and eat away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have found that frozen food stays good almost forever!. My father would buy meat on sale and freeze it until he had need for it!. Some of it was frozen for over 5 years!. Check the elk meat for freezer burn every so often (it is a discoloring of the meat it looks burned, it happens from lack of moisture)!. My dad was thrifty and refused to throw anything away, he had 3 freezers that he kept full all the time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It should be just fine!. I envy you having it in your freezer!. I love elk meat, but my hunter friend is - well - not in the picture any longer!.

We used to use it pretty much like we did beef!. You have to try it in tacos, seasoned with taco seasonings!. I also liked doing a pot roast with vegetables in the slow cooker and baking as a roast in the oven!.

Lucky you!Www@FoodAQ@Com

my dad loves to hunt we have elk alot!. we freeze it and dont eat it very fast!. i bet it would be ok!. if it has a foul smell trash it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
