Answers:
I am a former chef and hate to burst anyones bubble bu the first girl is dead wrong, they are the same, the word marzipan is used more for confections with almond paste filling while most bakers and pastry chefs use almond paste for cookies, cakes, filling and decorating items but they are essentially the same thing!.

It is ground almonds in a paste with sugar and sugar syrup add and pureed/pulverized in to a smooth paste, some can be coarser for baking purposes, I like to use it in cakes as a fat and egg substitute and on to of fruitcakes to keep them moist, and even just covered in chocolate for after dinner repas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Marzipan is 1/2 almond paste and 1/2 fondant!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

marzipan has sugar so you can eat it as is, almond paste does not so you use it in baking/cookingWww@FoodAQ@Com
