Why can't I get my brown rice to cook properly?!
Answers:
The difference between white rice and brown rice is that brown rice has an intact outer bran layer!. This layer is chock full of good-for-you nutrients and gives the cooked rice a chewier texture and nutty flavor!. But because the bran layer also keeps water from soaking up as easily during the cooking process, brown rice has slightly different cooking requirements than white rice!. The key to proper brown rice is actually pretty simple: use the same method as you do for white rice, but cook longer and with more water!. Increase the water to rice ratio to 2:1 if you like a fairly firm rice, 2!.25:1 for a softer, more moist rice!. Cook for 40 minutesWww@FoodAQ@Com
What happened when you cooked it!? Here's a little tip I learned from my wife!. When she cooks brown rice, she adds a bit more water to the pot!. For example, if for regular white rice she would use 1 cup of water = 1 cup of rice, for brown rice, she would use 1 1/2 cups of water = 1 cup of rice!. Results may vary though, depending on what recipe you are trying to do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Put brown rice and water together in a pot with a lid!. Use the ratio of 1!.5 cups water to 1 cup rice!. I normally make 3c rice with 4!.5c water for a single batch!.
Set the heat to maximum, and bring the rice/water to a boil uncovered!. Then put the lid on the pot, and reduce the heat to low/simmer!. If your lid has a steam valve, keep it closed!. Let the rice simmer for 20 minutes!.
Turn off the heat, and let the rice sit in the covered pot for another 10 minutes!. It’s OK if you let the rice sit longer than 10 minutes (20 or 30 minutes is fine too), but don’t let it go any less!. I prefer my rice to be slightly chewy, not mushy, so I usually remove the lid after 10 minutes!.
Eat and enjoy!. Be careful when you remove the lid, since a lot of steam may escape when you do!.
