Answers:
They have used rolled fondant to decorate that cake!. They probably started out by sculpting the cake to the desired shape, then doing a butter cream crumb coating!. Once the crumb coat is set, they covered with fondant!. There are recipes online to make it, or you can get it ready made at the store (try a cake decorating specialty store, but I have even bought fondant at wal-mart)!. There are directions on the container for how to use the fondant!. It comes in white, but you can use food coloring, or special cake decorating colors!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Use a knife to cut off the tops of the cake so they are even!. Or you can frost the cake so the flat side is up!.

Crumb coat the cake!. Use a frosting spatula and lightly coat the cake with frosting!. Let frosting set!.

Frost again!.

Use a spatula dipped in warm water to smooth frosting!.

I have not looked at the link but for a really smooth cake do all the above and then use fondant to finish frosting the cake!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the "icing" is called Fondant!. Its made of marshmellows and sugar among other edible things!. Its like a big sheet and u just sort of lay it on the cake and tuck it under!. Its not like icing ina cup!. its almost like a dough that you roll outWww@FoodAQ@Com

The icing you are talking about is called Fondant and its not easy!. The best website for this is :
