Okay, my hubby and I are Queso freaks!. We live in south Texas close to the mexican border, so naturally my fav!. food is Mexican!.

I make this queso at least twice a week, especially when friends come over!.!.!.!.and it doesn't last long!. Hope you enjoy!.

1 block of velveeta cheese--cubed
1 package of cream cheese--cubed
1 can of hot/ or mild rotel tomatoes ( I prefer hot)
Sometimes I add a pound of cooked ground beef or sausage

Throw all ingredients into a crockpot, put on low!.

Stir often, and in no time, you'll have the perfect queso!Www@FoodAQ@Com

They have a block cheese called Queso de Papa, it looks like cheddar cheese but taste much milder and creamer too!. Get some of this and in a double boiler shred it up and add a little milk to get it going!. I would also speak to a waiter or waitress in one of these places and ask for the recipe!. Sometimes they will tell you!. That way you can make it exactly like they do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Get some velveeta, some shredded cheddar, some heavy cream and a jar of salsa

1 cup heavy cream to lots of cheese and about 1/2 cup salsa

Heat the cream on medium heat til warm/hot, then add in shredded velveeta and shredded cheddar and whisk whisk whisk!.
Add in salsa once the cheese is melted and whisk!.

Pour into a dish and let sit!. Then eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Agree with Smellygrrl, but use a can of Rotel!. I lived in CA for six years!. I feel for you!. The lack of TexMex was devastating!. CA Mexican is different, more bland than TexMex, but you can almost get used to it!. The climate and beautiful outdoors is awesome!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, being that Queso is cheese!.!.!. I would think that your local supermarket would sell it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

What you want is Queso Blanco, you can find it in the farmer's market or hispanic supermarket or sometimes in your regular grocery store if you have a good one!. It usually comes in a round package!. It is white melting cheese!. Delicious!. It is soft and easily melts so it is sort of like a cheese sauce!. You don't need to add anything to it!. Just put it on top of your frijoles refritos or whatever you like and melt it!. Just don't heat it for too long or it turns thin and weird!.

Velveeta is garbage!. It isn't even cheese!. It's solidified oil!. I lived next to Tijuana, Mexico for many years growing up and I can assure you no one I new there used Velveeta for anything, nor would they know what it was or have anything to do with it!. I should also add that no one worth their salt in my old neighborhood would use storebought salsa!. You just make your own, and that's that!. Microwaved Velveeta with canned salsa is an American made up thing, not Mexican!. If you are living in California and they don't know what "queso" means, you are either living in Northern California, or you just have some different ideas about what it is supposed to be!. I can't imagine anyone in my old neighborhood in Chula Vista not knowing what it is!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
