HEAVY bottom metal pot is best way to go!. Thin bottom burns much easier even on a low heat!. Glass does not hold heat for good heating on a really low heat!.
I use the same ratio as you!. However brown rice takes twice as long as white rice, 40 minutes!.
Boil water
Add rice
Cover with tight fitting lid
Turn to lowest setting
Wait it out
In the alternative and this is much easier and more dependable, bake it in 350 oven for up to an hour, until all water is gone!.
Wash the rice!. Soak for 45 minutes in your 2:1 water ratio!. Drain water reserving liquid!. Pre-heat oven 350!. Put rice in casserole dish with a dab of butter and salt!. Boil reserved liquid and add to rice!. Cover tightly with aluminum foil or a tight lid!. 1 hour in the oven!. Rest for 15 minutes then fluff!.

I always boil it in a lot of water and when it is the stage I like, I just drain the excess water off, and return to the pot!.
With the element off, I let it steam to dry out a little more, stirring from time to time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

All rice is cooked this way for me and its excellent, i heard it from cooks on the radio!. Put amt of rice you want in layer in pan, cover it over 1inch above with water, add dab of butter or margerine and dash of salt!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
my experience is that brown rice uses a bit more water!. I also add a little bit of oil in it and it cooks a bit better!. I would think a metal pot is better coz a rice cooker is made of metal!?
