Answers:
It's the shell!!.!.!. well, it's not the stringy stuff inside at least!.

For the record, my mother told me that once she made two pumpkin pies, one from scratch and one with pumpkin from a can, and she couldn't taste the difference!.

edit: Here, I found you a recipe online!

Heck, I think I'll try it myself some time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can cut the pumpkin open, remove the strings and seeds, then cook the rest at the same time!. Then you use the insides, not the outer skin!.

Here is a step by step with photos and a very easy looking recipe:

I can't think of ANY recipe that calls for the shell of a pumpkin!.

believe it or not, my mom's an amazing cook, and her "secret" recipe is on the back of a libby's pumpkin pie filling can!. it's the best, and you can find it at any grocery store!.

good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

you peel the pumpkin, clean out the "guts" (seeds and fibers), dice it, and roast or boil it before it goes into the pie

a pumpkin pie make with a real pumpkin is wonderful - it is more mild and has a great mouth feelWww@FoodAQ@Com

It's the meat of the pumpkin!. You cut it in half, pull out the seeds and stringy stuff, and bake it, then scrape the insides away from the shell!. Then throw the shell away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the fruit Www@FoodAQ@Com
