What is the oldest tin of food in your cupboard and are you going to eat it today?!
Answers:
I rotate my food as I eat!. So, the oldest in my cupboard is 2006!. However, most have a shelf life of between 2-5 years for best flavor depending on whether it is a meat or fruit!. They may be good for much longer, just not with the same flavor that was intended!. also, be very careful and look for bulging lids!. If you can depress a lid on the can of food DO NOT open it!. It has formed gases that will allow bacteria to grow and botulism will be the result!. I have even seen this on grocery store shelves!. Be very careful to watch for this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Sell by dates don't mean alot on tinned food!. A friend of mine came across some tinned meat in an old air-raid shelter left over from the 1939-1945 war!. We opened them and the contents were perfectly edible!.I don't think you should worry too much!.
My oldest tin is baked beans dated Oct 2002!. I have just opened them they are OK!.I will have them for lunch!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've still got tins of food I bought in preparation for the Millenium-non-event-bug when we were all threatened with power failures and planes dropping out of the sky and I certainly won't be eating any of them today - we're having a nice fresh salad!Www@FoodAQ@Com
