They use a piping bag & a large "star" tip!. You can buy disposable bags or the reusable bags in the Wilton section of craft stores or even Wal Mart!. Use the side bar & scroll down to equipment & tools, click on tips!.

Well, there are a lot of people here that are idiots and some that just have no clue!.

You can the rolled paper, or plastic bag method and "swiril" on top of the cup cake ut it will be a round shape to the icing!. If you want the edges like that cupcake you will need a star tip for icing cakes!. But look for the bigger tip (not opening in the tip)!. It is about 2 inches long, and the regular size is about 1 in long!. I haven't seen the large tips in Wal-mart for a long time, but you may be able to find them at Micheals or soemwhere like that!.

You could also just use a large opeing regular sized star tip!. To keep it flat like that make a snake type swirl rather than an ice cream style where the hight builds on toop of it's self!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try rolling up a pice of paper in a cone shape and squeeze the icing through the smaller hole onto the cake, you can also get really good nozzles to put on the end of this kind of thing to make it the sort of shape swirl you want, for your picture it looks as if you will need a star shaped nozzle!. Try supermarkets to buy them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have to get a pipping bag with a jagged tip on the end, then just go around in a circle over the cupcake!.

You can try and cut the corner of a plastic bag and put the frosting in there but it's hard to cut that kind of tip on there, you would be better off buying one!. You can get them at your local craft stores like Micheal's or something like thatWww@FoodAQ@Com

That was done with an applicator!. If you're in a hurry, fill a sandwich bag with icing, cut a small corner off, and practice, practice, practice!. If you have a cookie press, you can try the smallest tip from it!. Preferably a slit, not a hole!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

that is used not by spreading, but put in a piping tube, or you can use a ziploc bag!.!. just put your icing inside, and cut off a bit of the edge and use it as a bag!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

that was done with a pastry bag!. put your frosting in a pastry bag and use a steel tip!. tips come in a variety!. so you can change the look of the "top"
