Can I use a square baking pan for meatloaf if I don't have a loaf pan?!

Question: Can I use a square baking pan for meatloaf if I don't have a loaf pan!?
I was just planning on using a square baking dish for my meatloaf tonight!. I probably won't have to cook it as long since it will be spread out more over a larger area!.
Any other concerns, other than shape!?

Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Actually your meatloaf will come out better if you do not use a loaf pan!. Just shape your meat into a "loaf" shape and bake it on a baking or roasting pan!. You could also use a parchment paper lined baking sheet!. It will not "spread out", it will maintain it's shape, and be less greasy!. Bake at the normal temperature!. I never use a loaf pan for meatloaf!. Don't try and pack your meatloaf into a baking pan!.
Here is my favorite meatloaf recipe from "Good Eats"!.

I would worry that the edges/sides would bake more quickly than the center & dry out!. If you have a 9X13 baking dish that would be better!. I never bake my meatloaf in the loaf pan, just use it to shape, then put in a 9X13 pan!. You could just shape the meatloaf like a football & be good to go!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

To make an awesome meatloaf the secret is to put a cup of sour cream in, to make it brown in the oven!.

You don't even need a loaf pan, just shape it like a big oval circle like a football and put it on a baking sheet, it's so good!

You can shape a meatloaf and bake it in anything!. I've even made a double batch and cooked it in a bundt pan!Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can also use muffin tin for individual little meat loaf!. Kids thinks it's funWww@FoodAQ@Com

I also saw Rachel Ray use a muffin/cupcake pan and made individual meatloaves!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I just shape mine into a "football" and bake in whatever's handy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No problems!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nope! It should work fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Anything will work as long as it fits! Www@FoodAQ@Com
