Can I substitute unsweetened chocolate for sweet german chocolate in a cake?!
I don't have time to go to the store!. Can I just substitute unsweetened chocolate for sweet german chocolate in a cake!? Should I reduce the amount of chocolate I use!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have to replace the sugar and fat of the sweet baking chocolate!. If you use unsweetened chocolate, just add the sugar!.

1/4 lb!. butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups cake flour
1 1/2 tsp!. baking soda
1/2 tsp!. salt
Butter and lightly flour two cake pans!. Melt the chocolate in a small pot or bowl over simmering water; set aside to cool!. Cream the butter, slowly beat in the sugar, and beat until light!. Add the eggs and the vanilla, mixing well!. Add the chocolate and combine thoroughly!. Mix the flour, baking soda and salt together, add to the first mixture, and blend!. Add one cup ice water and beat until smooth!. Pour the batter into the pans and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean!. Cool in the pans for 5 minutes before turning out onto racks!.

i don't think it will turn out right!. unsweetened is specifically made for cooking really!. bu ti guess you can always try it and see what happens, sometimes it can surprise you!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
well if your orignally supposed to use sweet chocolate, then i wouldnt use unsweetened!. it might ruin the flavor of the cake!. but you can use it if you like!. it just might not taste right!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
