A couple of questions about my roast?!
I put a small roast in the crock pot at about noon today (it's about 5 right now)!. It's only maybe a 2 lb roast, and it has been on high all afternoon (it wasn't completely thawed)!.
I have two questions!. First - what's the best way to tell when it is done!? also, when is a good time to put in carrots & potatoes, and how long should I let them cook!?
Sorry if these seem like silly questions, but this is my first roast and I'm not 100% sure!. Thanks for any help =]Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always cook my roast in a crock pot!.!.!. here is how I do it, in case you want to try it some time!.!.!.!. I put the roast in the crock pot, add sesasonings, and worchestershire sauce, throw in the carrots, potoates, onion, etc!.!.!.then fill with water about 1/2 way and put the lid on and put it in the fridge!.!.!. When I wake up the next morning, I throw it in the base, turn on low, and by about the time I get home/dinner time, it's done! I cut into the middle, and as long as it isn't "bloody red" it's good to go!! It'll be some of the tenderest roase you've ever had!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
If you are cooking in the crock pot, you pretty much want it to be "falling apart" tender!. the carrots and potatoes will probably take about an hour in the crock pot, so put them in about an hour before you want to serve!. (don't cut them too big)!. If your roast seems ready, you could pull it out and put on a plate and cover loosely with foil, then your veggies would cook faster in the juices (without the meat in the crockpot) Good Luck!. The meat will be tender and falling apart when done!.
Normally you add the veggies at the bottom of the slow cooker, they take longer to cook, and then add the beef!.
If you have a microwave, you can partially cook the veggies and toss them into the slow cooker!. Another way would be to cook them conventionally until just tender!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Poke it & see if there's any blood coming out--if so, it isn't done!. It may be too late for the carrots & potatoes, unless you put the crock in a 350 oven for an hour or 90 minutes!.
I always put my veggies in when I start the meat; they take a long time to cook!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should put the potatoes & carrots in about 90 mins before you wish to serve!. You can tell when it's done when you poke it with a fork and the meat falls apart!.

meat will be done when tender and falling apart in your broth, also for the carrots/potatoes, throw them in about 1-2 hours before you want to serve it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
