How to make fake spices for kids?!

Question: How to make fake spices for kids!?
My 4 and 2yr old sons love to help me cook, but they will get into my spices and pretend to cook as well!. They will pour them into a pot and mix it with a spoon!. I am afraid that they might get the spices in their eyes and it gets expensive when I have to go and buy spices every week!. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make fake spices for them to use!? Any ideas welcome!. Thank YouWww@FoodAQ@Com

When my boys were this age, I saved all my big plastic spice jars!. Then I filled them @ 2/3 with colored marbles, gumballs, anything colorful that was satisfying to "shake"!. These spices had the lids glued on (so they couldn't open & accidentally eat anything) and were on the bottom shelf of my spice rack!. They could cook at will -- it was fun for all of us and they are now both WONDERFUL cooks!.

Like everything else, they need to learn what they can and can't do!.
You could get a tiny measuring spoon and show them how to level it and only use that much!. Or you could let them bake something their way and then let them taste it and compare it to how mummy's tastes!. If they don't like the taste of what they made, they wont want to make it again:) Have fun and good on you for getting the kids involved in the kitchen it really does help set them up for later in life!. It's never too young to start!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's so cute!. :)
Maybe you could just go out into your yard (or a park or something, if you don't have a yard) and pick some grass, different leaves, weeds, etc!. and cut them up really fine, microwave them for a few minutes to dry them out, and put them in empty spice jars for them!.
I wouldn't really discourage them from doing this, though!. As they get older, you want them to learn to cook!. It's much healthier than relying on pre-packaged garbage, so hopefully the enthusiasm will stick!. Plus, women love a guy who can cook, right!? :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

the dollar store has dollar spices!.!.!.use those if you have to!.
another option i let my kids do also is

instead of actually cooking my meal i let them make something like cinnamon toast as snack w cinnamon and sugar!.!.they love pouring it!.
if its a while before we eat of course so it does ruin dinner!.
mine loves cracking eggs more so!.!.you have to make sure all the crunchy things are out fo the bowl!UGH!

How about white all purpose flour and powdered food coloring!? You can also buy lots of varieties of spices at the Dollar Store, which, of course, saves you money!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
