even though there are a gazillion recipes on line, nobody has made many of them!. there is no rating system for most!.
if you buy a book, you will have some assurance that they have been tried and produce a good product!. if they weren't any good, people wouldn't buy them!.
i find that specialty recipe books often have hints and tips along with the recipes!. i like that!. the little wire-bound books sold by church groups and philanthropic groups all have the best recipes these people know!. same with the books put out by food companies won't sell product if the recipes aren't the best they can find/develop!.
many recipes on line call for ingredients i don't have!. local recipes use products i can find locally!.
a cookbook also has recipes featured by a particular kind of cook (rachael, emeril, paula deen)!. you can expect to like their cuisine!.
and, i just like finding ideas that are new to me, and a book is easier to cuddle up next to when you have a few minutes at night when you are planning tomorrow's menu!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

YES!
Not only are cookbooks entertaining, but they are highly educational, especially if you are perusing the pages of The Joy Of Cooking, or any of the Cookbooks from Cooks Illustrated!.
A good cookbook not only gives you recipes, but it gives helpful tips , explains techniques, above all they can be very entertaining!.
My personal collection fills over ten feet of bookshelves, and that is besides a 1,000 or more recipes on my computer, a CD-Rom cookbook with over 1 Million recipes, and dozens of on-line cooking sites bookmarked!.
And what is really bad, I am constantly finding cookbooks that I just can't live without!
I guess I'm a cookbook junkie!. LOL
