*Buy about a lb!. of 80% or 90% lean ground beef!. Then, put a little olive oil in a sauce pan and cook the beef until it is brown!. If you want to, you can also cook some ground sausage meat with it (like a roll of Jones Sausage meat)!. Spice with garlic powder, oregano, basil, onion powder and/or any other spices you like!. Adding flakes of red pepper will make it a bit hot!. Then, add a jar of your favorite sauce (Classico, Bertolli, Ragu) and cook all together for about 20 minutes!. What I like to do too is add a small container of ricotta cheese right into the sauce and mix it through and cook it with all the other ingredients!. Yum!. In fact, I'm making baked ziti tonight and that will be in my sauce!. No one said that you have to make everything from scratch!. I used to --- cooked for hours with cans and purees and paste and whole tomatoes, etc!. No need to!. The jarred stuff is pretty damned good, if I must say so myself!.
P!.S!. to "Jordan" who also answered this question!. Jordan, why even bother to answer!. You're just trying to say hurtful things and, apparently, nutritionist or not, you know nothing about cooking so said something mean instead!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Start with browning your meat then draining it really well!. Use the drained off fat to cook the onion and garlic you have minced in advance!. Use the ingredients in the above answer!.
Then add the meat and all the ingredients to your skillet or I really prefer the stovetop wok to cook sauces such as this in!. Simmer it for about 2 to 3 hours, taste and watch closely to see if you need to add more water!.
You could also use one of the premade spaghetti sauces and pour it over your browned meat and onions/garlic and simmer it for an hour!. Taste and add any final seasonings you think would be good!.
Hint: A dash or 2 of ground cloves adds a flavor treat!. Seems to bring out the other flavors of the sauce extremely well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I make meat sauce like this:
I dice up a large sweet onion!. Put some oil in a skillet and brown it!. I take ground beef or veal or lamb or any combination of those!. (If you prefer turkey or pork that's fine too)!. I slowly stir the mean in with the onion (medium heat) breaking the meat up as it browns!. At this point I also add some fresh garlic, salt and pepper, and some fresh parsley and basil if I have it!. If not, dried herbs are fine!. Once the meat is cooked through I pour over it a can or two of any of the following: diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato sauce, etc!. Even tomato paste could work!. Then as soon as it's good and hot I pour over my pasta and eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You really only need 3 things for a good spaghetti sauce:
Tomato sauce
fresh Basil
lots of Garlic
If you want to add the beef I would recommend cooking it well with a bunch of garlic and a touch of salt!. Then throw in your tomato sauce and basil and let it cook on medium to low for a while so that the flavors mix well!.
The secret to getting a really nice flavor is to cook the garlic enough that it starts to get a little sweet!. It'll turn a light brown and start to smell really good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you prefer something a bit easier than making it completely from scratch, find a canned or jarred sauce you like!. I like both Prego and Hunt's, original or mushroom!.
Brown the hamburger completely, then drain off the liquid (which is mostly grease!.) Add your prepared sauce!. Then add the secret ingredient: a tablespoon or two of yellow mustard! Trust me!
Heat until sauce is bubbling, stirring occasionally!. Make sure you do not overcook your spaghetti noodles!. Leave them al dente, that is, slightly firm but able to be cut with a fingernail!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
