Use either butter or lard to make the pie crusts!

Our great grandmothers never had Crisco, and they made excellent pie crusts!.

Same proportions - 3 parts flour to 1 part fat, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 Tablespoon sugar, and 1 part liquid!.

I like to use very cold butter and cut it into the sifted dry ingredients until it is mostly blended!. It should look like cornmeal!. Then add ice water to make it into a dough!.

My neighbor used lard and cut it into the sifted dry ingredients until it was like cornmeal, then added boiling water to make it into a dough!.

The sugar is to make the crust brown gently as it bakes!. Do not leave it out or sub sugar substitutes for it!.

Always let the dough rest for at least half an hour in the fridge!. Do not knead the dough overly much, just enough to turn it into a flattened ball!.

Roll it between 2 sheets waxed paper or plastic for best results!. Use the bottom sheet to handle the pie crust!. then peel off!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I let mine cook on low in the slow cooker pretty much all day!. I add to mine
1 can of beef broth
1/2 can of water
1 pkg of Italian dressing (the dry stuff)
1 pkg of Au Jus Www@FoodAQ@Com
