Every chef program I watch says that all that's necessary for mushrooms is to brush them off but I always feel like they are still dirty!. So, I wash and make sure they are dried well!. I cut them and store them in a ziploc bag!. Saves me time when I want to use them!.

Most people will tell you to "use a cloth to get the dirt off"!. I dont know where these people get their mushrooms, but it doesnt matter if I get the mushrooms from the local market or the store, they always appear dirty!.
I keep mine in their natural container until I am ready to use them!. Then I rinse them lightly under water, washing the dirt from them!. Sometimes, if I am looking for a crisper mushroom, I will wait for them to dry or dry them!. But if I am adding them to a sauce or they can steam, or being "dry" is not essential, I cut them and then cook them!. I have found this to work very well and they will be banging!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mushrooms do not like water!. You might notice that if you wash them first they will go brown and slimy really fast!.
Your best bet is to brush them off with a damp cloth right before using them!. If still feel that they must be washed, give them a quick rinse under cool running water, and pat dry with paper towels!.
Cutting them up before storing them in the fridge will have no effect on quality!. If you prefer to cut them up before storing make sure to store the slices in a brown paper bag!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is best not to wash mushrooms at all!. Leave them whole in the fridge, when you are ready to use, all you need to do is wipe them with a damp cloth or paper towel!. I can't remember the reason, but I read somewhere that it is bad to wash them with water like regular veggies!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's okay if you want mushy mushrooms!.
You can clean them first, by wiping the tops with a barely damp towels!. You can also slice them ahead of time!.
Don't use a container with a lid, the best thing to keep them in is a paper bag!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd just take them out as soon as you are ready to use them and *lightly* rinse!. Then dry them well with a paper towel, which should be fine!. Some people say you should just wipe them, but, no offence, the are grown in!.!.!.poop!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
do not wash them in advance!. If you wash them, wash them right before you use them!. You really don't want water to soak into the mushrooms for a long time!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
