Home baking business, a good idea or not so good?!
All I need is a hand washing sink to get a baking license for home!. I've had many compliments on my pecan pies along with some moans so I think I've got it down pat!. I use whiskey in it, that must be the secret!. :)
Anyway, I thought I could sell them to restaurants!. I know that many restaurants buy their desserts out!. Does anyone know anything about this subject!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're going to have to sell yourself AND your product to the restaurants!. That means baking a bunch of pies, getting out, and delivering slices or whole or half-pies to the places you'd like as clients!. Leave a business card, contact info, and be sure to sell them on your fast turn-around time ("call in order of 5 or more pies by 9 AM, have it delivered by 5 PM" or whatever your policy is)!. I'd start w/ just your pecan pies, since that's what is best and what you have down-pat!. Branch out to other varieties as yoru business grows!. Remember the restaurants have to be able to sell slices (usually 1/6th of a pie) or a whole pie at a profit, so price yours accordingly!. Offer a "suggested menu price" and your "low wholesale price" to them!. And you might consider using a 10" pie shell, or even a 12" one, just for the drama of it all!. A dinky 8" pie is not that impressive, IMHO!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My friend's wife does this, she found that there is a lot of money to be made in the wedding cake industry so that could be a route you could explore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Just make sure you've got your paperwork in order (ServSafe and things like that)!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Go for it!. You probably wouldn't lose a lot to try it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
