Question regarding rinsing lettuce before putting it in refrigerator?!

Question: Question regarding rinsing lettuce before putting it in refrigerator!?
I have a head of lettuce that I want to store in the fridge and take out pieces for sandwiches!.

My question is, if I cut off the lettuce leaves and rinse it all then put it in a ziploc bag in the fridge will it go bad faster than if I leave it as a whole head of lettuce in the fridge!?

Typically I have always left it whole and taken off pieces as I need them but then you have to rinse each piece and it gets the sandwich all wet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Do NOT cut your lettuce with a metal knife, or it will turn brown at the edges!. Either pull the leaves off, or use a special plastic lettuce knife (about $1)!. Yes, you can certainly wash and drain the lettuce; then take it apart and put the leaves into a zip-lock baggie in the refrigerator!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You do need to put the paper towel in there (I agree with the ripping technique if you're not going to eat right away), but I've never used moist!. The point of the paper towel is to absorb any moisture, which will make the lettuce go bad and lose it's crispness!. I always put a dry paper towel in the bag and the veggies last quite a while!.

Or, you could get Debbie's Green Bags - Google them!. My cousin uses them and she swears by them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I believe it lasts longer if you leave it whole!. If you use only a leaf or two at a time - rinse them when you use them and then roll them up in a dry paper towel for a minute before putting them on your sandwich!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

either way is fine the trick is to wrap a kinda moist papertowel in there, my grandma taught me that and my lettuce lasts sooo long now!Www@FoodAQ@Com
