When you bake a sweet potato in the oven, are you supposed to wrap it in foil?!

Question: When you bake a sweet potato in the oven, are you supposed to wrap it in foil!?
I've looked at tons of recipes on how to bake them on the internet and none of them mention foil but my husband insists that you are supposed to!. And don't poke fun at me, I'm new to this housewife schtick!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Foil makes the potato schmuchy!. No foil and you get crisp skin!. Cook them for at least 1 hour at 400!. Do not forget to poke holes in them so they wont explode!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It really doesn't matter!. Your husband is simply use to the way they serve them in restaurants, so he thinks this is the norm!. Truly, I think they just do that for ease of serving and to keep them hot after they've cooked, as most bp's from restaurants are not actually baked, but microwaved!. (FYI - You can not actually MICROWAVE them in tinfoil!.)

You can do it either way!. But whatever you do, make sure to prick holes in the potato with a fork so the inside doesn't get overly hot and explode when you slice it open!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The foil is optional, not mandatory!. You can also wash them, pat dry with paper towels, then grease them on the outside!. I use vegetable oil or Crisco shortening!. I like them greased better, as it makes the skin soft!. The foil works well too!.

You can put them right on the rack, no need to dirty a cookie sheet!. Bake about 45 - 60 min!. at 350!. They're done when you stick a fork in them and they're tender!.

If you're in a hurry, nuke them (no foil)!. You can grease them, or steam them in a micro-safe container!. Put about an inch of water in the bottom and cover loosely!. Nuke about 3 min!., then turn potato over and nuke 2-3 more minutes!. These directions also work for regular potatoes!.

Your cooking times will increase with big potatoes, decrease with small ones!. Baking times won't increase if you do multiple potatoes at once!. Nuking more than one at a time will increase your cook time!.

Try doing one in foil, one greased!. Don't tell your hubby which is which and let him try both to see which he prefers!.

I like mine with basil - dried flakes or fresh (chop fine) the best!. They're good with butter, a little brown sugar, or maple syrup, too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can -- but most old fashioned cooks don't!. I am from the south and most around here just slather the sweet potato in grease (bacon grease is good) and bake it in a 400 degree oven for at least an hour!. This makes the skin very crisp and gives the pulp a good flavor!.

And the grease is great for the skin on your hands!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No there is no need!. That just sort of steams the potato!. Never wrap any potato you are baking!. For baked potatoes rub the skin in oil and sprinkle with kosher or sea salt and bake at 400 degrees until done!. For a sweet potato, just omit the salt!. Your potato will be delicious and the skin crisp!. I don't even use a pan but rather just lay them on the baking rack in the oven!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always do!. It also is nice to moisten the potato under the faucet, then roll it in sea salt if you have it, but iodized salt works to, then place it in the foil, then slice thru the foil and potato, making little holes in about 5-6 places for the steam to escape as it cooks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't use foil (wasteful)!. Sweet potatoes and yams cook just fine in their own jackets!. Just pierce the skins so they don't burst!. My mom used to wash sweet potatoes, pierce them, then just laid them directly on the oven grills!. It was like snack food for us!. I put mine in an old pie pan just because I dont have a self-cleaning oven and like to delay having to clean the thing as long as possible!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ok, dear, this is what you do, you wrap them in yes foil, why !? it holds in the flavor darling!. Poke some holes in it with a fork to release the steam, cook on 350 for two hours it will take a while uncooked!. maybe you'd rather use the canned yams, same thing!. When they are soft, take them out, set them on a dish or something cut in half, spread butter in the slice, let melt, mmmm mmmm good ! bye nowWww@FoodAQ@Com

wash it off and rub very lightly with veggie oil and wrap it in foil should cook perfect in an hour for a smaller potato and 2 - 2 1/2 hours for a large potato!.
poking holes will speed up the cooking time too!
I put the butter/ cinnamon/ sugar on mine,
Yummy!Www@FoodAQ@Com

ABSOLUTELY NOT!.!.!.!.I peel cut mine into med chunks and roast in a pan with the meat, roasted capsicum, baby onions, potatoes, pumpkin, with just a splash of olive oil, ground sea salt, ground black pepper!. If you really want to be adventurous try roasting them in a pan on their own with maple syrup, dobs of butter and a sprinkle of nutmeg!. YummoWww@FoodAQ@Com

I know people love to fill up landfills with garbage, but foil is not necessary!. Put it in a pie pan or cookie sheet or anything to catch any sugar that might seep out!. Sweets are moister than Idaho potatoes, they can't go right on the rack!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always do!. Put a piece of foil down and on top a piece of parchment paper, put the potato on top, wrap and bake!. I've heard that if foil touches food it's a cause for Alzheimer's!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been baking sweet potatoes for years, and i have never wraped them in foil, what you can do is bake one with foil, and one without!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

my mom always wrapped our potatoes in foil, she thought they cooked quicker and had a crispier skin!. I think you can do it either wayWww@FoodAQ@Com

I always wrap my sweet potatoes in foil!. I rub some butter on the potatoes then sprinkle with a bit of salt before wrapping them!. Gives a great flavor and keeps the skin from becoming dry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes you are, make sure to wrap it tightly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think soWww@FoodAQ@Com
