Question: What are some bean recipes (cheap)!?
I'm trying to save on food costs!. Obviously if I just cook the beans and eat them plain, that would be the best!. But I want to add some interest!. One person I know said he was able to add a lot of variety!. Thanks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I saute onion and garlic and add in a can of black beans!.!.!.!.salt and pepper and pour over buttered rice!. That is really good, cheap and filling!Www@FoodAQ@Com

3 BEAN BARBECUE SALAD

1 lb fresh green beans
1/2 cup water
1 can pinto beans
1 can black beans
2 cloves garlic, minced
pinch of oregano and basil (optional)
1-2 red vinegar peppers, sliced
1/3 teaspoon rubbed sage or Lawry's Poultry Seasoning
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup Good Seasons Italian dressing (or vinaigrette)

Wash beans in cold running water!. Remove both ends from beans!. Cut beans into 1 1/4 inch pieces!.
Bring 1/4 cup water to a rolling boil!. Add the garlic and a pinch of salt to the water!.

Drop cut beans into boiling water; reduce heat to a simmer and continue cooking until beans are a bright green color and slightly tender!.

Drain 1/2 the liquid from the canned pinto beans and add to the green beans in the saucepan!. Do the same with the black beans!. Add sage or poultry seasoning!. If you use the rubbed sage instead of the seasoning, adjust salt as necessary!. Add oregano and basil, if using (use fresh herbs when in season, but dry herbs can be rehydrated in cooking water)!. Stir well!.

Slice the vinegar peppers into strips 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide; add to mixture!. Stir in dressing and bring to a boil for 1 minute!.

Serve immediately while still warm, or chill in refrigerator and serve cold!. Makes a wonderful side dish for hot Summer night barbecues!.

you can get a ham steak, ham hock or ham bone and cook navy beans with it for flavor, I add a TON of garlic, onions and celery and eat with corn bread!.!. beans 1!.25 a bag, garlic, onion, celery 3!.00, ham what ever 3-4!.00, jiffy corn bread mix !.55 !.!.!. makes a lot enough for a few people for a few meals!.

can Black beans, 1 chicken breast, diced onion, can diced tomatoes with chilies, 2 cups cooked rice!.!.!. saute the chicken and onion, add everything else and let it simmer until heated through!.!. season to taste, I eat it with cheese and salsa

We eat beans alot in this house!.!.!.one of my favorite winter soups!.!.!.bean and bacon!.!.!.

Take a package of bacon, dice it and render off the fat in a large pot!. Cook until crisp and remove it!. Drain on paper towels and set aside!. Then drain off all but 2 tablespoons of fat, and add 1 large onion, chopped, and 3 cloves of minced garlic!. If you have some dried sage, or fresh!.!.it tastes wonderful in this recipe!. Cook until the onion becomes soft, and then add 2 small cans of canellini beans (or 1 large can),and the bacon!. Then add a 32 oz container of chicken broth, and simmer for about 15 minutes!. Dry Bean Soup: I use 15 bean soup mix, but can be made with any dried bean or combo!. wash dry beans, cover with water and soak overnight, or bring to a boil, turn off and soak 1 hour!. drain water, add a med!. can of crushed tomato's, 1 med onion, diced, a cured ham hock or slice of cured ham, diced!. enough veggie stock or water to cook!. cook for about 1 hour or until beans are done!. very good with cornbread!. enjoy!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Porotos con riendas: Soak pinto beans over night and simmer them in a pot with some pieces of squash!. Twenty minutes before eating, add some spaghetti noodles to the pot!.

Green beans with tomatoes & cinnamon
OP is our baby froggy
? c water, nonfat chicken broth, vegetable broth, sherry or wine
1 medium onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
6 medium tomatoes, diced
4 c fresh string beans (green beans), trimmed and cut into 1 inch pieces
2 t ground cinnamon
? t ground allspice
? t black pepper

Heat water, broth, sherry or wine in a skillet over medium heat!. Add onion and garlic!. Cook and stir over medium heat for 5 minutes adding more liquid if necessary!. Add remaining ingredients, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until beans are tender!.
Makes 6 servings!.
Per Serving: 66 calories, !.6g fat and 14g carbs

Classic green bean bake
1 can (10 3/4 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 C milk
1 ts soy sauce
generous dash pepper
2 packages (9oz each) green beans, cooked & drained
1 can (2!.8 oz) french fried onions

1!. in 1 1/2 quart casserole, combine soup, milk, soy sauce & pepper!. Stir in beasn & 1/2 can of onions
2!. Bake @ 350 F for 25 min or until hot & bubbling!.
3!. Stir bean mixture!. Top w/remaining onions!. Bake 5 min more or until hot & bubbling!.

Lemon-Mint Green Beans

? t dry mustard
? t dried mint leaves
1 clove garlic
? t black pepper
1/3 c plain nonfat yogurt

Bring 1 inch of water to boil in a steamer!. Place beans in a steamer basket or colander!. Cover and steam for 12 minutes or until tender!. Meanwhile combine remaining ingredients in a bowl!. Toss beans with lemon mint sauce and serve!.
Makes 4 servings
Per Serving: 57 calories, !.4g fat and 12g carbs

Garlic Green Beans
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Sauté garlic in hot oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat; add beans, tossing to coat!. Add broth and remaining ingredients!. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes or until green beans are crisp-tender!. Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Special Green Beans
For a great side dish put
2 cans of Green Beans
2 Tbsp of butter
1 cup of cashews
1/2 cup of honey
1/4 cup of water
in a cassorole dish!. Stir well to coat the beans!. Bake in oven at 350 for 30 minutes!. Stir before serving!.

Ida's Easy Succotash
1 (15-ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
1 (15-ounce) can lima beans, drained
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup light cream

* In mixing bowl, combine corn and lima beans!.
* Add sugar, salt and pepper and mix well!.
* Pour into a sauce pan and add cream!.
* Warm over medium heat until vegetables are cooked through!.
Makes 6 servings!.

8 Flavor Baked Beans
? c water,
nonfat chicken broth or vegetable broth
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 c chopped fresh or low sodium canned tomatoes, drained
? c brown sugar, firmly packed
2 T cider vinegar
1 ? t dry mustard
1 t ground paprika
? t ground ginger
pinch of cayenne pepper
4 c cooked or canned navy beans, drained and rinsed

Preheat oven to 325 degrees!. Heat water, broth or wine in a large heavy pot over medium heat!. Add onion and garlic!. Cook, stirring over medium heat for 5 minutes adding more water if necessary!. Add tomatoes, sugar, vinegar, mustard, paprika, ginger and cayenne pepper!. Simmer for 10 minutes!. Stir in beans and remove from heat!. Pour into a 1 ? quart casserole dish!. Cover and bake for 45 minutes!. Remove cover and bake an additional 15 minutes!.

Makes 6 servings
Per Serving: 205 calories, !.9g fat and 40 g carbs

Sue and Gloria's Baked Beans
This was on a Paula deen show

4 (16 ounce) cans of baked beans
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained ; OPTIONAL
1 cup molasses
1 cup Paula Deen's Original BBQ sauce
2 tablespoon yellow or brown mustard
5 slices of cooked bacon, crumbled
1 (6 ounce) can French fried onions, crushed
Salt and freshly ground pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F!. In large bowl, mix together beans, pineapples, molasses, BBQ sauce, bacon, and a third of the onions!. Add some salt and pepper to taste!. Pour beans in 9-by-13 casserole dish and sprinkle remaining crushed onions and bacon on top!. Cook in oven for 1 hour or until beans brown and bubble!. Serve warm!.

After heated through, top baked beans with finely crushed gingersnaps

for tuna (out of the can)
1 can of cannellini beans (rinsed & drained)
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
2-6 cloves garlic (depending on your taste)
juice from 1/2 - 1 lemon (depending on your taste)
salt & pepper (to taste)

Blend until smooth in a food processor or blender!.

You can also add fresh flat-leaf (italian) parsley, if you like!.
