Is my strawberry jam off or is it "crystallized"?!

Question: Is my strawberry jam off or is it "crystallized"!?
Well, I've been looking forward to a nice scone with strawberry jam and cream for ages!. So I finally get my scone, but then I open the jam, and it's got like, mold on it or something!. the top is all white and non-jamy looking!. It's pretty gross!.

So I refuse to eat it, because I think it's gone off!. But my mother claims it's just crystallized!. Note that this is a woman who tries to feed my strawberries covered in white fur!.

So is it off or just crystallized!? Is it safe to eat!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It's likely a combination of both!. However, that being said, I would more likely lean towards mold being on the strawberries than the crystallization idea!. Because the strawberry jam would have had to be sitting there for quite some time for it to crystallize!. Depending on where the jam was stored, if it was stored in the fridge, I would go with the mold idea because of the fact of the coolness and moisture in the fridge!. If it was stored in a very hot, dry place, that could speed up crystallization!. But, I'm really leaning towards the mold on this one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

beware of mothers bearing gifts (food,!. your mother anyways) your jam has mold on it!. caused by incomplete seals!. this happened to me the first time i made jam and used paraffin to seal it!.when the wax cooled it pulled away from the jar and it molded!.

if it was crystallized it would be hard, or at least crunchy!.

if you still want to try to eat it, scrape the mold out and see if it tastes ok!.

next time buy some from the store!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

its off!.!. i woudln't eat it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
