Chees cake. Why leave it in the oven an hour after it is cooked? COOKING HELP!?!
I have a children's cook book and i have a recipe of a blueberry cheesecake in the oven, and nearly ready!. But after we have been told to leave it in the oven for an extra hour!. I was wondering why and would it be harmful for us to eat it without leaving it in the oven, does anyone know why the book said this!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is so the cake can cool at a gentle rate!.
Otherwise you may find lots of cracks on the top of the cake!.
It will not hurt you to eat it!. It may just not look as pretty and have quite the same consistency as if you had allowed to it finish properly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have made many many cheese cakes and I have never left it in the oven after its cooking time is done!. I have heard that leaving it in the oven prevents the cake from cracking!. I have not had problems with mine cracking from taking it out of the oven after cooking time is complete!. If the recipe you have calls for the cake to be kept in the oven you should probably go by the noted directions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
its not harmful to eat it!. they probably meant to say leave in in the oven for an hour WITH THE OVEN OFF!. this will in some recipe let the cheese cake set!. hope this helps
The cheese used in cheese cake is harmless and bacteria can only grow if the cheese was off in the first place!. trust me i am a chef!.

It will be fine to eat if you remove it from the oven right away!. However, it will probably not be the consistency that you are expecting!. It needs to be chilled for a couple of hours to "set" and achieve the creamy texture that cheese cake if famous for!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It says that in some recipes and the idea is to just let the cake cool down slowly, rather than "shock" it at a different temperature!. It really doesn't matter!. I take mine out of the oven right away, cool down and then refrigerate!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
it's ok, you can also eat it without leaving it in the oven for an hour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
it allows it to cool slowly and set the cheesecakeWww@FoodAQ@Com
