Why is Jamie such a joke?!

Question: Why is Jamie such a joke!?
Greetings my Beloved Brits!.!.!.!. Here in the United States Jamie Oliver is not too well known, but he is a personality on our Food Network!. I have noticed when watching BBC America that Jamie Oliver is often held up as a joke, someone to be made fun of!.!.!. a "laughing stock" if you will!. Why is this!?

Tonight on a program my hubby and I heard Gordon Ramsey make a comment to someone that they had "gone all soft like they worked for Jamie Oliver"!.

What is the meaning of all this!? Can someone please give me the real Brits' point of view!? Thanks to all-MissDelanneWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Jamie "trying to be working class although im upper middle class mockney" Oliver you mean!?

Hmmm i wonder why!?

edit - a PA is a personal assistant

edit - To Elegy, Im also from Essex, Southend in fact, Jamie Oliver was born in Clavering and raised in Cambridge so please dont give me any rubbish he is a "cockney" or his essex accent isnt put onWww@FoodAQ@Com

Miss Delanne, Jamie appears to be a joke, because a small number of people are jealous of his success!. He had a difficult time at school, due to dyslexia, and he only really shone through when he was cooking!.
Some people make fun of him, because of his strong essex accent, and the fact that he tends to be very friendly to people he has just met!. However, i find these to be part of his strength of character!. He is a good cook, and loyal to his family and friends!. When one of his friends, Jimmy Dougherty, was trying to start a farm, jamie helped him with a loan and good advice, which i find very commendable!. Finally i think if you watch jamie's programmes, you should make up your own mind up, as far as what you think of Jamie Oliver!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

He is a joke because he takes himself too seriously, and yes he is a fake!. I don't think he's really very talented!. He got lucky as a junior chef at the River Cafe (which is ok but really not that great) he got spotted once when the cameras were doing a documentary on the place as a bit of a cheeky chappie!. He's not in the same league as Ramsay, Gary Rhodes, Rick Stein or even the hairy biker chefs!. He's one dimensional, really quite dull, and most irritatingly on his latest shows he has become unbearably patronising!. Alright darlin'Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am Australian, but I'll give it a go!. I have seen Gordon Ramsey live and he made comments about him too, but then he said they are actually quite good friends!.

I absolutely love Jamie by the way!. I love anyone who uses whatever talent they were blessed with to help people in any way they can!. also love Gordon!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think its because he (Jamie) actually gives a s**t about real people whereas Gordon is a very aggressive natured idiot!.

Edit = I agree that he does act lower in class than he actually is, which is irritating, but at least he is using his 'fame power' for good!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the first answerer is right

we brits dont like fakers

so when a middle-class boy tries to talk and act like he's from a gritty working-class background, we hear fingernails on a blackboard

it's a bit like lostprophets trying to be american and the kooks singer sounding like a scouser when he sings!. it's just wrong

dont get me started on "devon cream turned american ghetto girl" joss stone!. she needs to dieWww@FoodAQ@Com

an ENGLISH man from YORKSHIRE
jammy did a show in UK belittling people from Rotherham in Yorkshire he had the sense to flee to the USAWww@FoodAQ@Com

he is trying to get people to eat healthier hear in Britain i personally think he is doing a vg job !.to me i think the other chefs are a bit envious of him because he is diffrent from the norm and is well liked hearWww@FoodAQ@Com

As illustrated by the previous answers before me it's become fashionable to knock him because he's become "rich and succesful" and has tackled some embarassing social dietary issues in the UK!.
Succesfully!?

Gordon Ramsey is no better with his constant swearing that Jaime Oliver seems to be copying!. Gordon is calling Jaime a joke because of the rivalry between them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I LOVE Jamie Oliver and I think he's a blessing to his people!. Not only that!.!.!.!.!.!.but I hope and pray that he comes to America with his school nutrition plan!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i love jamie!. people don't like him because he tries to stop them eating turkey twizzlers and chips!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

He's no joke, is very successful over here!. Gordon Ramsey likes to have a bit of banter that's allWww@FoodAQ@Com

I heard that Jamie Oliver's PA has a PA!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Jealousy, plain and simple!. Oliver is the son of an Essex pub owner who grafted and persevered and he is now worth £25 million!. What more reason could you need to hate him!? As for Gordon Ramsey, the sight of Oliver on his show 'Jamie's Kitchen' talking to trainee chefs with patience and respect despite them just having burned a pan-load of pasta must have made his blood boil!. He prefers to get stuck into his students and reduce them to tears in front of their colleagues!. Very mature!. Finally, for all those claiming not to like him because of his 'fake' accent, I can assure you, having been born just up the road from him, that people in Essex really do talk like that!. If you don't believe me, just watch an episode of 'Birds of a Feather' on YouTube!. Personally, I respect him and think he deserves all the success he's had!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
