There is no rule before or after!. I follow t he below method and it come out perfect!.
Immerse the eggs in water and add a pinch of salt!. This salt is to prevent the shell from breaking when it is boiling!.
After 10-11 min switch off the stove or whatever you are using to boil!.
Allow the eggs to stay in that hot water for the next 10 min and then start peeling the shell off!. It comes with easy and the eggs will be cooked perfect!.
If you are in a hurry then I think you can increase the boiling time by another 2 min and peel immed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I put my eggs in the water before I put the pan on the stove!. If you wait until the water boils to put the eggs in, the shells will immediately crack open and the egg will run out!. I boil my eggs for 10-12 minutes, depending on whether they're large eggs or extra large eggs!.
Once they are done, run some cold water into the pan and drain out the boiling water!. Continue to put more and more cold water into the pan until the water temp is no longer warm!. I let the eggs sit in the cool water for a few minutes, then remove them and put them in a bowl in the frig so that they get cold!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always put into cold water and bring to the boil and then reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 7-10 minutes!.
If you want to shell them drain and run under cold water for several minutes to chill them, or just leave in a pot of cold water!.
That will stop them cooking further and the black ring appearing around the yolk!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
