Are eggs shells porous? Like if you boil them in regular tap water could the chemicals + drugs cook into them?!
also, do you know if it also goes in reverse!? Like could you use the water you boil eggs in for something else!? Like watering your plants or in another recipe!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah egg shells are porous, so they will absorb what they are cooked in!. so if you cooked your eggs in salty walter then the eggs will have a salty taste!. I believe the shells act on a two way system so absorption occurs and they can emmit into the liquid!. So technically you can soak your egg in salty water but not boil it, boil it in normal water and the egg and the water will both be salty!. Try it with dye and see what happens!. There's and idea for science fair next year!
You can water your plants with water that has been used to boil eggs, it will be classed as grey water, still water but not "clean", as to using it in other recipes, its completely debatable, that would be up to personal choice, i personally think the water used for boiling has a gritty taste to it after it has been used!. Don't really want that in my food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes!. The shell is porous!. When making Easter eggs, you can see the color from the water to leach into the egg white!.
There is a white membrane between the shell and the egg-white!. when the egg is boiled in colored water, the color water goes between the shell and the membrane!. It then transfers from the membrane to the egg white!.
Once the egg has been boiled in colored water, and placed back in clear water, the only transfer that can take place is between the water and what is in-between the membrane and the shell, which is minimum!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
