Answers:
The kind of pumpkin you should use for pie is a "pie pumpkin"!. They're about 8 inches in diameter, and smaller than the carving pumpkin kind!. They're also sweeter and grainier-textured than the carving kind!. Just regular run-of-the-mill pumpkins are used for carving!. I think they're called "Jack-o-lantern" pumpkins, actually, on the label!.

Canned pumpkin is actually not pumpkin but a type of squash!. But, of course you can make pumpkin pie out of a "carving pumpkin" It is harder to work with because of the high water content you need to boil it down quite a bit to be equivalent to the water content of canned pumpkin!.

Unfortunately, most recipes call for canned pumpkin!. I would find a different recipe that calls for fresh if you plan on using fresh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should be able to find them in the produce section of most grocery stores this time of year!. Look for "pie" pumpkins!. They're pretty small compared to carving pumpkins which are much larger!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

A pumpkin is a pumpkin!.!.it can be used for either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
