Answers:
A pie pumpkin is a SUGAR PUMPKIN :) google it! it might be under sugar pie pumpkins! that is the kind they are talking about in cook books, etc!.!.!. so that is the kind you should be asking for!.
just cut them up and boil them for a half hour or so, drain the water, scoop out the meat while it is still warm and put it in your blender or food processor until it looks like the stuff in the can!. about 2 cups will make a pie and you can freeze the rest in bags!.

you do have to scoop the guts out, but it will be all cut up, its like cleaning out a cantaloupe!. its really quite easy and tastes much better, fresher!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a former chef and use the smaller, pie or sugar pumpkins along with a kuboca or turban squash and I roast them in foil to bring out the flavour, peeled and cut into chunk, roast them in a 350-375 d F oven with a bit of butter or margarine until soft and brown, then cool it, and process in a blender or food processor with the canned milk, dark brown sugar and spices adding the eggs outside the vessel, you will have a souffle if you don't!.

The pumpkins for halloween are not suitable, and rubbish the previous people have said except for those who have actually answered the question are right, do not waste you time with anything other than the sugar/pie ones and a hearty squash for extra flavour, you can freeze the cooked pumpkin for future use and make a pie at a later date!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pumpkins are pumpkins, threes not much variety in pumpkins!.

Ghost Pumpkins (white ones) are a "new" variety that has been "discovered" they just put a bucket over the fruit before it turns orange

Smaller ones are used to make pies because the tend to have tastier flesh!. You can also make Pumpkin Soup out of them!.!.!. yum!

Bigger ones are used to carve for halloween!. They dont taste as sweet!. You can still roast the seeds theyre fine!.

Giant pumpkins are mainly used for their seeds!. For roasting or grinding up into a flour-like substance!. Giant pumpkins are not only for show, the winning Pumpkins seeds go for as much as $1000 a seed!

Honestly, while you can technically make pumpkin pie from any pumpkin, some of them taste wretched!. I have been told by many people in-the-know that canned pumpkin is much better for pies than any fresh pumpkin and a heck of a lot less work!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can make pie from those pumpkins!. but

There are pie pumpkins that the walls are meatier and yet a better taste!. Pie pumpkins are a medium size and can as many pies as a larger size pumpkins!. I like growing them and making pies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It takes about an hour to cook a pie pumpkin and you have to peel it and take the guts out!. I would never make a pie with anything but canned pumpkin!.

The pie pumpkins are usually about 6" and green skins!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have grown both kinds!. The smaller one are normally used for cooking while the other is for decoration!. The large one has to many thicker stings to use for cooking!. You may want to surf the web for even more details!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
